lotus elise w/ hard top vs. porsche cayman?

some time in the next year im planning on getting a new sports car. Im 18, so its kinda crucial to me. the problem is that they are about the same price, its just the porsche is more of a "class" car and the lotus is a pure sporty car just for plain speed and performance. they also have the dilemmas of the warranty, insurance, convenience, resale value, and so on. also im concerned if the elise will change its body(im not a giant fan of the hood). can someone please give me some pointers?(from what i hear people say, they’d rather have me get the cayman, but its just common here in california)

The elise has a Toyota engine, and the Cayman is a better car…but if you want to stand out, then get something at a price point similar to the Cayman — a Corvette Z06. You can get a 2006 with a couple of thousand miles for $50k – $60k and it will handle nearly as well, but rip the doors off of both. You could also get a 2003 Porsche 911 Cabriolet for around $50k with under 30k miles. This will definitely set you apart from the others, and is in an entire different league than either the Elise, Cayman, or Z06. A third choice might be an Audi RS4. It is "stealth" on the stand out scene, but screams performance on the street.

Which car is better, the Lotus Esprit Turbo or the Porsche 911?

in terms of fun to drive, maintenance cost and availability of parts, performance, features, offers better value overall.
I have to add that I’m 6′ tall.
I want to buy a 8-15 year old car. I know the Esprit is not manufactured anymore so the comparison should be between comparable models.

I stick with the Porsche 911. In that date range, you’d be looking at a 911 that is described as a 993 or a 964. The 993 was made between 1995 and 1998. I happen to own a ‘97 Carrera. It’s the last of the air cooled narrow body cars. If you are interested in buying something that is a collectable, consider either a 1997 Carrera or a 1998 Carrera S. The S model has the fatter rear end and wider tires. It’s often described as the Turbo body on the non-turbo chassis.

Another interesting point on the 993 Carrera’s is that the seats have two mounting positions. Typically the seats are mounted in the forward position. However, you can easily move the seat back about an inch by simply removing 4 bolts, shifting the seat back, and then re-installing.

Regarding your height, don’t worry about it. I’m 6′6" and about 300 lbs. I fit just fine, with the exception of typically pulling my shoes off when I drive.

I’ve been a driving instructor for Porsche and other clubs for about 10 years. It’s simply a fantastic piece of equipment on the track and very rewarding to drive. On the track, it’s a little tight with the helmet on. It would be better if my car didn’t have a sunroof. You lose an inch or so of headroom with a sunroof. Performance is stellar; it drives like a go-cart. Parts are readily available; however, maintenance costs can be high.

Price wise, you’d be looking at about 30K plus or minus 5K for a nice car. Further, you are at the flat part of the depreciation curve. I wouldn’t expect the Carerra to depreciate more than $1K per year for the next 5 years.

The lotus esprit turbo had some serious maintenance issues. Although it looks simply fantastic, maintenance is a pain and expense. Further, I assure you that a stock Carrera would lay waste to a Lotus Esprit Turbo on a racetrack.

Aston Martin "Experience" – is it worth the money?

There are plenty of websites where you can book a drive in an Aston Martin, or Ferrari etc, at places like Silverstone. Has anyone been on one of these experiences – and are they worth the £200 or £300 they’re charging?

You should try it…. I found it exhilarating, to say the least, and a ‘not to be forgotten’ experience!

how much money does the " LOTUS EXIGE" cost??

or failing that, how tall is too tall for a lotus elise?

Getting into an elise with the top on is a pain. Curiously, without the top on, even I could get it at 6′5" and 300 lbs. And have enough room to drive hard. with the top on, my guess would be no more that 6′.

How Do You Politely Tell A Client They Are Wasting My Time?

I’m on the verge of telling a client to take his creative project (I’m making a campaign for them) and to shove it up his you know what.

I get 1-2 of these clients a year and I normally end up flying off the deepend insulting them and simply returning their money to get rid of them. I’m not the arguing type and I’m actually pretty good at what I do, but this is one of the situations where I just can’t take it anymore.

Here’s the deal.. I am to create a piece to market their company (MLM, I know.. total lameness) and when I ask them for key points they want to focus on or suggestions for text/verbage they keep providing me with a link to the world’s longest and stupidest "Get rich" movie on their site telling me to watch the video. I’ve watched the movie 5 times (that’s 20 minutes of my life wasted) and it doesn’t say anything. Just a bunch of pictures of people, lotus flowers, hands with money wads and a sales pitch that doesn’t convert well into an actual ad.

The 3 times I’ve been on the phone to get more information, I get a sales pitch from this douche telling me what a great concept it is and I swear I can’t take another one of his calls.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
Yes I can afford to be selective. As I said I only get 1 or 2 of these types of clients a year that are impossible to work with.

Well I know exactly what you are feeling right now. I get those 1-3 clients per year also. And I get rid of them also by referring to them to someone else.

I don’t know what industry you’re in, but it sounds like you’re not worried about telling this guy to move on and I’m assuming you’re venting here to get it off your chest. I know I have a few times.

If you can tactfully get out of the deal, it sounds like you’re ready to let this one go. I know I would. I deal with hundreds of clients per year and yes there are a handful that I choose not to do business with. There are a few difficult ones in the bunch and there are tons of other companies who would take them on and deal with their bs.

The Sozin’s commet book has appeared on sale (check it out on Borders). These are the things happening on the new Avatar episodes:
- The story will definitely end in book 3. However, the Avatar creators are thinking of making new episodes.
- Zuko defeats Azula in agni kai. But Azula breaks the rule and fires lightning at Katara as a last resort. Zuko protects Katara by interfering. He becomes unconcious. Katara then fights and incapacitates Azula.
- Fire Lord Ozai doesn’t die. Aang uses energybending on Ozai to remove his firebending. A giant Sea turtle teaches Aang energybending.
- Sokka looses his boomerang and sword to save Toph.
- Master Pakku is a member of the Order of White Lotus. This orders liberates BaSing Sei
- Ty Lee becomes a Kyoshi warrior
- Katara finally trusts Zuko, who becomes Fire Lord
- Aang and Katara kiss again. Katara makes the move first.
- Air Nomads will never return
- No one dies in this war
Hmm, the editors say that the balance will happen without the Nomads (yes, it does sound weird). But I suppose they could change their minds

Also, Azula almost becomes Fire Lord before being defeated by Zuko. She banished almost everyone during her rule. Ozai, meanwhile, became a "Pheonix Lord"

Also, Aang talks with previous Avatars, even Avatars before Kyoshi so discuss whether killing Ozai was moral or not (supposedly Aang thought it was immoral to do so, but the other Avatars encouraged to kill him).

Then Aang uses his energybending . . .
Another wird thing is that Aang was able to redirect Ozai’s Sozin comet powered lightning, which looked awesomely deadly.

Zuko becomes Fire Lord? cool.

Air Nomads will never return? that’s sad. but won’t that break the Avatar cycle? what will happen when it’s the Nomads’ turn to have the Avatar born to them?

Does the new 2007 lotus exige s have power windows??

Not as standard equipment. Like the Elise power options are limited to central locks on the Exige S. However, the Touring Package is offered at $1,350:

i am 5 feet 5 inches, will it be easy for me to get in and out of a Lotus Exige?

i generally see tall people having a tough time in getting in and out of a Lotus Exige.. since i am pretty small made will it be easier.

no problem, you will sure fit, i once drive one, im 6"2` , and was cramped, but you will have no problem, good luck and have fun, it is such a peppy little car, bye
